I watched the world burn Eugene x Victoria

(OST : monster of God-Hellsing)

A/N: My babiiiiiiiies!!! This is the very last chapter of their romance! My werewolf and my seer succeeded in bringing revolution to such a cruel world and set their people free in spite of them dying! I was so sad when I wrote this one but it was cathartic <3 I hope you will dig it!

I watched as the world burned. My world turned into ashes, slipped through my fingers.

Eugene painfully crawled towards Victoria's weakened body. He was still in his werewolf form, bleeding through open wounds caused by silver bullets. None of these wounds were on their own fatal to the supernatural creature, but he knew that all of them would probably cause his death. He was ready to die, for he gave all of his might during the last battle that opposed the tyrants of this world to the people. He ignited that fire with the help of the first and last seer, Victoria, who despite being blind, joined him in battle. She exhausted herself while trying to protect people and ultimately rushed to her death in her last attempt to save this world when she transformed into a powerful entity and wiped the tyrants and their soldiers off this world. She pushed herself to her limits and knew there was no recovery from it. Death already waited for both of them but she refused to go without holding Eugene one last time in her arms. The werewolf, half-transformed, put his bloody head on her lap and let a weak growl escape from his mouth so she would know he was right next to her. A soft and cold hand landed on top of his skull and she gently massaged it. A soft smile crept on her lips and her face had a serene expression on it.

« We did good Eugene! We did well. »

« I know. I didn't think we'd pull this through, but you set your people free. » She chuckled at his statement.

« /we/ set /our/ people free, just as it was prophesized. Do you think it was Fate guiding us or do you think we made our own decisions? » She asked, still in a quiet voice but he could perceive worry in it.

« We made our own decisions! From the day you decided to escape from the Tyrants to this day when we put our lives on the balance. » He replied, breathing heavily as the wounds on his torso were making it difficult for him to breathe.

« Aah... so our love is real then... » She sounded relieved and he smiled at her words.

« You are the telepath here. You'd know if it wasn't. » He said with a light chuckle. He forced his arms to move so he could wrap them around her waist and pull her closer to his frame. She gently stroked the back of his neck and his shoulders.

« You have a point.....Do you have any regrets? » He shook his head.

« Not a single one... you? » He declared with confidence.

« Same... » She paused and sunk her nails into his shoulder.

Truth be told, she had a better life than she could have ever dreamed of. She broke free from her condition of a slave that forced her to use her powers in ways she would never want to. She was lonely at the time and even thought she would die alone. How strange life could be!! Not only did Victoria gather enough courage to break free, but she met Eugene who, just like her, was different and unique. She had powerful psychic powers in a world where nobody ever is different and he was a werewolf. Never did they discuss how it happened. Nobody knew why Eugene was a werewolf, nobody knew why Victoria had all these powers. It simply was. She was the very first to bond with him and he knew their relationship would be the only one he would care about. His first... and his last. They would die together, as heroes, in a world that saw them as outcasts. What better revenge could they have asked for ?

People were starting to realize that the war was over and they won their freedom. They started to cheer and celebrate all over the planet and the radio informed everyone of the new future that was ahead of them. It quickly became white noise for the couple and Victoria cocked her head to the side, allowing her silky pink mane to stroke the nose of her lover.

« Are you afraid, beloved ? » She asked, still petting Eugene's head. He nodded quietly, holding her body tighter.

« Only of not being with you in the Aftermath. »

« It won't happen. I promise. » She tried to reassure him, still unable to say if they would be together or if Fate would do them apart. She did experience near-death but never actually knew how would it be once she would die. Her hand intwined with one of his huge paws and she bent forward, enough for her face to touch his shoulder blades. « I had a good life Eugene. It started when I met you. »

« Mine finally meant something when my eyes were laid on you. I really am a lucky man. »

« We're both lucky . Eugene..can you sing for me one last time ? » She requested, her voice became weaker and he knew that she would be the first to die so he nodded and started to sing a ballad. It was the very ballad he wrote about them during one of their trips. She loved this song so much that usually whenever she was anxious, the young seer requested this song from him and he would indulge in her request. The story of the song was full of passion and optimism. It was the tale of heroes who saved the world while people cheered. It was a song full of acceptance and love. It was the perfect goodbye song. He kept singing, even when he heard her exhale her last breath and sang until the song was over. Even then, he mumbled the tune of the song, lovingly until his lungs collapsed and he couldn't sing anymore.

The people who fought alongside them, suddenly realized that their heroes were nowhere to be found and searched for them. It is said that when they found the bodies, Eugene had reverted back to his human form and was holding the frail and sweet Victoria in his powerful big arms. Both of them were smiling and people said that the rain didn't even want to bother their happiness and spared their spot so they were dry while everything else was soaked with rain. Others said that they looked as if they simply fell asleep and one could even be fooled and believe they weren't dead.

I watched as the world burned. I died in peace knowing I saved the future and I would be with her.
