GOT: The name Targaryen

The silver princess stopped her horse and gently stroked its neck to keep it calm. Just a few minutes ago, it was on full speed, as it was pursuing a criminal who was busted plotting against the queen. Many hated Cersei when the Mad Queen was still alive, but those same people hated Targaryens even more, to the point of trying to assassinate the queen. Scattered across the seven Kingdoms, finding them and nipping rebellion to the bud became the princess new goal. It also was an excuse for her to not remain at King's Landing and feel useless like she so often felt before. Daenerys was queen, and she was surrounded by competent counselors around her. Bäahal was no counselor, and because she did not live her life to the fullest due to her « social status », she wanted to catch up with her life and find a purpose to herself. Traveling was the solution.

It did the princess a lot of good, to be able to roam the lands and meet new people. It was an eye-opener on the situation of the seven kingdoms but also a way for her to meet the people her sister would lead. In a way, she would be a Targaryen they would see up close and personal, she would be within reach and would demystify them. It would be a lie to say that it went smoothly. A lot of people didn't want her and she heard it all, the insults, the rotten fruits thrown at her, people spitting on the ground when she walked by. A lot of people called her sister a usurper, a tyrant, but within weeks, it became rarer and sometimes, the very same people who insulted her weeks earlier, came to apologize to her once they realized that Daenerys wasn't the monster they all feared she would be. People could change and it comforted the princess in her self-discovery. She too could change.

As the horse calmed down, Bäahal jumped off of it and landed on the wet and muddy ground. It would be useless to keep going. The night had fallen and the criminal would probably stay in the forest for the night. Her horse was exhausted and needed rest, so they would camp instead. Without a fire so they wouldn't give their location to their prey. Once settled, the princess sat on a wooden trunk and took out the smoked meat, cheese, and slices of bread from a bag she carried with her. Her companions, three former Queen's guards started to eat as well and talk about how much their lives had changed since Daenerys came and how the name Targaryen was taking a different meaning since they were working for the new queen. It made the princess lift a brow before a soft smirk crept on her lips. Yes, it did change for her as well. As the men were eating, she smiled to herself.

Targaryen, it was a name laced with shame. She hated the name from early on, she hated her reflection on the mirror. The purple eyes, the silver hair, so many pieces of evidence of the crime committed against her mother that she couldn't stand. Her mother loved her, despite everything. Still, young Bäahal rejected the name. She didn't want to have anything to do with the man who hurt her mother. Targaryen, the name was laced with anger. As she grew up, she couldn't escape from violence. She couldn't avoid being the recipient of disgusting desire. She was sought after because she was beautiful, otherworldly as they would say, but also because she was the half-breed of the Mad King. She was an offshoot that could be dealt with any way they wanted to, so of course, people were interested.

Targaryen, it was a name laced with Hope. When Daenerys Targaryen became a reality, it changed everything for the young woman. Hope, once again inhabited her heart and gave her the spark she needed to take her freedom back from her masters. It was also evidence that she wasn't alone anymore. Whether she wanted it or not, she had a sister. Time proved her right since she became a handmaiden of the queen thanks to her friend Missandei. Time proved her right since the truth was revealed and she has embraced as a sister and not a stranger anymore. Targaryen, the name was laced with Pride. She reclaimed her name, and while she couldn't erase her origin and the pain the Mad King brought to her, Bäahal found a new meaning to this name. She came to love it like she loved her sister and nephew, Jon Snow. She came to own it, and make it hers. She became a Targaryen before she became Bäahal and now it was time to find who Bäahal truly was.
