Chronicles of the Primeval gods: Life of Elpis: Elder goddess blues.

Chronicles of the Primeval gods: Life of Elpis: Elder goddess blues.

A/N : My sweet goddess had been talking to me. So I indulged her a little bit.

Elpis was sitting in front of her vanity, a golden brush in her hand. Wearing only a white negligée, the pink-haired goddess was quietly brushing her long pink strands while staring at her reflection. She held onto the brush a little harder as the thought of her late older brother crossed her mind. Khrön was the messenger of the gods, and the sibling she was the closest to. She remembered when the god came to her vessel, right after he regained his memories of her. He took a risk that day and signed his death warrant, but he did find her. She remembered her shiver as he embraced Asma, relieved to have seen the image of his sister, at least one last time. She remembered his face, as he accepted his doomed fate and apologized to her for failing her. The memory had her squeeze her brush harder.

She knew she lost her loyal siblings to the ambition of Ayasha and Ishtar. It didn't make it easier, however, for the pain was still sharp and still strong in her heart. It was so sharp that night, that Elpis broke her brush in half. Khrön and Sitäa were the only siblings who genuinely cared for her. Yes, like the rest of her family, including her parents, they had a hand at keeping her weak and gullible. They also feared her powers, but unlike the others, they tried to teach her to control it, her emotions at the very least. They tried to teach her to become less gullible and somehow, undo all the damage they caused. Sitäa talked about the power of love, the power of caring for another being than oneself. She tried to teach her how to understand love and tell apart those who truly did love her from those who simply wanted to control her. She wanted her to be ready, to love a Sin (who at the time, was believed to be devoid of any emotions), and to still be able to find her happiness given the circumstances she was in. Khrön helped her control her anger and resentment. He helped her identify this emotion, alongside her pride that could often lead to destruction.

Perhaps she felt sentimental tonight, but she was missing them. Tonight, of all nights, she thought of the good old times when she was nothing more but a young naive goddess. All those years spent in captivity inside human hosts were motivated by the very idea of revenge, but also the desire to see her loving siblings again alongside Pride. She knew when they died and she was still trapped inside Asma, that she would never be able to see them again when Pride frees her. Yet, she had still not truly realized just how bad she would have it. Tonight was the night when loneliness and grief took over. The strong desire to see dead loved ones overwhelmed the goddess who ended up crying a couple tears, she wiped off of her face. Her family was no more, -how could she consider traitors as a family?- but she found a new family. She found Pride.

Pride walked into the bedroom, still wearing his suit -without the blazer-, and holding a glass of bourbon in his hand. He quickly looked at her and the now broken brush on the vanity. She lifted her head to look at him, still boiling with a mix of grief and anger. Pride picked those emotions up, so he knew exactly what animated the goddess that night. He leaned against the vanity as she leaned into her chair and crossed her beautiful legs. Her golden orbs were glowing brightly as she tapped her fingers against the vanity. Pride took a sip of his bourbon, quietly, as if to let the goddess gather her thoughts before he finally spoke.

« I can feel your anger from across the room, my Light, » He started with. « Yet, I still have a feeling you're holding it back. »

« You would be right, my king. If I truly expressed my anger, there would be no Earth left, to rule. »

She was assertive, absolutely certain that if she let her emotions explode, there would be nothing left but death and destruction. There was no need to hurt her beloved humans when the ones she wanted to destroy were her pantheon. Pride wouldn't have minded it, the destruction of Earth. He hated the place, hated humans, hated the very existence of something below his nature yet.... he knew Elpis loved them and he had planned to let her rule over Earthrealm once they got rid of her pantheon. Elpis noticed his eyes flashed blue and she kept talking.

« I just can't stand the idea that Ayasha and Ishtar are still breathing as we speak. I cannot stand the idea that they're getting away with the murder of my siblings, with their attempted murder on me, the murder of my father...Each passing minute is torture for me. »

Pride took another sip of his drink, emptying the glass and swiftly putting it on the vanity. He grabbed her cheek with the hand that held the glass and forced the goddess to look at him. His eyes slowly took that color that sent shivers down the goddess of Hope's spine. They turned into that hint of bright blue, indicating the Sin's fierce resolve, anger, and desire for carnage wrapped into one. He hated when his beloved was upset, even more, when she was longing for carnage and he couldn't deliver it by the minute. You couldn't tackle an all-father without a plan, even less when he was paired with a Chessmaster such as Ayasha. She had probably anticipated an attack from them by now, probably went through all the known paths to the pantheon, and secured the entry with powerful guards.

She probably had searched for a way to unmake a sin, so she could surprise him and force him out of his vessel. She was clever, far more than you could guess she was and Pride wasn't the kind to charge headfirst. He'd plan and sometimes planning could take a while. Besides, Elpis needed to get stronger, to fully recover and break the limitations of her power forced onto her by her siblings and parents. It was taking time but she was making progress. She was, after all, becoming more and more in tune with nature, awakening her connection to Life as a whole, perhaps at the All-mother's level. His gaze grew in intensity, sending shivers down her spine, almost distracting her from her mourning.

« Fret not, my Light, we are set on the path of revenge now. I know it will be a dread to wait a little longer, but I promise you an act of grand revenge. I promise you a bath in your sister's golden blood. I promise you to make Ishtar scream and beg for his life. They will kneel before you, my queen, my light. They will squeal once they see your power and mine. Will you show them mercy, once we get there? » -He sighed in pleasure, as she kissed his wrist, motivated by his speech, and fueled with a peaceful fury. His affection and trust were enough to tip the scale towards the betterment of her emotions rather than the self-destructive path she was on. It even made her smile a little, an earnest little smile that filled Pride with warmth. -although, very shortly-

«How dare you to ask me if I will show them mercy once we get them on their knees ?... Of course not! I will not show them mercy. I will NOT show them any mercy after what they did! They took everything from me and from you! They deserve nothing but death. » She said, fired-up by his words.

« That's my Light. That's my queen and this is exactly how we will make them pay. I ask for your patience, and if this could be of any consolation to you, I will soon layout my plan so we could discuss the best way to execute it. »

He informed her before he pulled her off of her chair and against his hard frame. His left arm wrapped around her waist and he pressed a searing kiss to her lips. She wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed him fiercely. She wasn't alone like her mind suggested earlier. She wasn't alone because she found a new family in Pride. She found someone to love, someone who knew her, someone who cared for her. They were given a second chance at being together, /thanks to/ Hades when he remade Pride, and she didn't hesitate to take that chance. Today, of all days, this truth also sunk in and the goddess, who was upset just seconds later, mellowed and was soothed by her sin's quiet dedication.
