The princess was the Sun. She was his sun. Jaime didn't tell her how he truly felt for her because he knew that if he did, then he wouldn't be able to be separated from her. Bäahal came to him when he wasn't prepared for her. He was fond of her and cared for her life amid a war between their two houses. They should have remained enemies, but her stubbornness made it impossible for them to be. Bäahal was his sun. She traveled all of Westeros to find him, concerned for his safety and survival. She wanted to help him get back on his feet and become the man she knew he was. The man she saw in him. Bäahal didn't see him as the Kingslayer, a traitor, and a liar. She saw him as Jaime. She saw him as a man who sacrificed everything for love. The love he had for the people and the love he had for his family.
Was he stupid? At times, he was led by his emotions and sometimes they got the best of him but she never saw this as a fatal flaw. She didn't cast him away because of what he did, no matter how abhorrent that was. She understood. She didn't excuse him, but she understood. The princess was the Sun. She found him when all he wanted to do was die after his twin sister Cersei was killed by Daenerys. He had lost everything, but she didn't give up on him. She never did. She brought him joy, light, and warmth. She made him see that there was still life after the disaster. She made him realize that he hadn't given his all and he still had plenty to live, a second chance...a chance she was ready to fight for. She fought for him. She was in love with him. She was his Sun.
