There was something in the way Kira carried herself, something Oya recognized instantly when they first met. There was "Strength", of course, strength. Kira didn't have it easy, quite the opposite when you thought of it and she managed to survive.
Some would say that because she chose to become a hunter, then she had a death wish. After all, the hunter's life was a lonely life. One you knew would be short because you could end up dead in the next case. You could end up crippled with nothing else left for you to do. with acknowledging that would fade away because the job was ungrateful -and hidden at that-.
Some would say that, but Oya wouldn't. OF all the things she saw in Kira, the first and strongest feeling she noticed was the blonde's will to live. Yes, she took a dangerous path, exposed herself to a premature death but it wasn't because she wanted to die. She was screaming at life, challenging Death every single day because she wanted to live.
And she did so,
