Chronicles of Lux and Tenebrae: Apocalypse

Apocalypse.

It was the end goal. The Horsemen were created in order to bring destruction to humanity. They were announcing a new era, the end for both men and gods. They were announcing the end of life as well, both Life on Earth as we used to know it, but also Life herself. Death was created as the direct rival of Life. He was the only one powerful enough to kill her and he should have when the first ride of the Horsemen began. Instead, they fell in love and thwarted the plan set in motion. Together, Life and Death decided to stop the Horsemen by sending them to the Vanishing Point. It was supposed to be permanent and it lasted for millennia until it didn't. They broke free.

Death never truly questioned his existence. He knew that he had a maker but never truly investigated the matter. Surely, the one who created him and his siblings couldn't achieve their goals because of the unpredictable feelings Life and Death shared. Surely they changed their plans once it became clear that the Horsemen were defeated. Fate words resonated in Death's mind ever since he met with her. She didn't name a god but it was pretty obvious that she was talking about Time. He would have had an interest in separating Life and Death and probably came up with the « prophecy » to keep them separated. He would have an interest in separating Lux and Tenebrae since they were walking in their parents' footsteps. He didn't want them to become the new Alpha and Omega. Princess Despair was a pawn, a poor angry and heartbroken soul with enough grief and hatred towards Lux and Tenebrae that she would have been able to release the Horsemen from the Vanishing Point. Nobody would ever be able to realize that she served a higher power, nobody would see past the smoke screen and realize that Time was the real enemy.

What would have been his motive? He already had power, he was the eldest god alive and deities and men alike worshipped him in their own way. Men knew the importance of time, they feared it because it always ended with death. Gods respected him because he was the first of their kind. He witnessed their birth, sometimes even participated in it. Death always felt some special connection to him without truly understanding what that was. But if he was his maker, then it did make sense. Then everything started to make sense. Did he even need to have a motive to make a move on Time? He had observed mankind for as long as he could and from the first souls he took to the Underworld to the last ones, they all were the same: complex, with a desire to have control and a hunger for power. Why would ods be any different? They were capable of feelings just like mankind was. Death knew it. He did fall in love after all.

Life still had not recovered and was still in a deep coma. The effects of her condition started to spread across her realm and began to affect the human realm as well. Decay was spreading and alongside with it, the madness that preceded the Apocalypse. Death could feel their presence on Earth as they started to lay waste on humanity. He could follow the trail of destruction left in their wake. So did Tenebrae and Lux. The princess still didn't recover from the attack sustained a few human years ago, and they knew the risks of taking her to the battlefield at her lowest capacity. She could die again and this time not is brought back to life by her mother but what was at stake was more important than her own life. The King was wondering if the kids would be able to become the Alpha and Omega since Lux had not recovered her full memory but Tenebrae told him that it wouldn't be a problem anymore because Love found its way. She fell in love with him again and he would his best not to lose her to war. Not this time. Not ever.
