Dean was rescued from the curse the witch cast on him, much to Oya's relief. They never spoke about the nightmare itself but Oya remembered. It was lonely and cold. There was nobody in this dream save for Dean and herself thanks to the African Dream root. She wasn't a dream expert but she realized that one of his biggest fears, if not the biggest was to be alone. Abandoned by everyone. Convincing him that she wasn't part of his dream and actually came to rescue him was harder than Oya thought. It stung when Dean reminded her that she left while they were on a hunt, to go with a group of hunters who hated him. How could he trust her afterward? How could he ever believe she wouldn't do it again? Her words didn't work at first because he still didn't believe them but she told him that ever since she came to America, he gave her something she never thought she would have again. A home. She grabbed his arm and pulled him into a hug. The world they were stuck at started to crumble. He woke up, but it exhausted them both.

At least he recovered and for a brief moment, he went hunting his Sam like they used to do because he needed to adjust. Dean wasn't very talkative and wouldn't want to stay in the same room as Oya while none of them could even look at the other in the eye. So he got himself back on track with a family hunt. After all, they've been hunting together ever since they started it and in this unfair and terrifying world, it gave both brothers a sense of familiarity, of routine. While he was away, the African hunter healed enough to return to business. Castiel knew from their previous conversations that she wanted to leave the bunker and never return. He convinced her not to and prevented her from leaving several times arguing that she couldn't just run away when things got tough and that Dean and Sam actually liked her and would want her to stay.

During their conversations, she told him that nothing was stable in her life and Sam and Dean offered her this stability she was looking for but couldn't deal with. Breaking this fragile balance, while she was fragile herself only pushed her towards the exit. He told her that she couldn't be walking on eggs all the time without breaking a couple and that didn't mean it stopped there. She could still get back on the saddle and ride and her relationships weren't jeopardized as she believed they were. They made-up from their huge argument of last time and he eventually decided to give her a chance as well. She cared about his « brothers » and it was something Castiel held dear to his heart. With that said, she still held grudges against Angels and it would require some time before she decided to grow close to Castiel. It would require some time before he could forgive what she spat at him regarding his stunt as God and his failure towards his people.

Dean was informed by Castiel about Oya's attempts to leave the bunker because she felt guilty over the witch hunt that went bad and it prompted the Elder Winchester brother to actually go out of his way and tell Cas to keep her at home and convince her to stop trying to escape from the bunker over something silly. -well, it wasn't silly but he downplayed it so she would stay-. And it worked. Cas convinced Oya who decided to stay. The hunt went very well and he came back to the bunker with Sam. Casually, he brought back some pie and offered a slice to Oya who was cleaning her guns. She looked up to his face, then to the pie and shared it with him along with jokes. Their bond was restored, they could look at each other faces once again. That very night, she went to his bedroom, to sleep like she usually did. Nightmares plagued the woman who couldn't sleep alone at night. Dean understood this and simply patted the mattress next to him so she could slip underneath the sheets and sleep next to him. It was a habit he came to enjoy. Part of what made Oya herself. Sleeping again, sort of let it sink into the woman that they were past this witch case issue so they could move on.

Good. ! That was very good. Everything resumed to normal. He got her texts when he went on a mission with Sam. He got to sleep next to her whenever he came back to the bunker and they got to talk and joke as usual. Oya was grateful the awkwardness vanished and secretly was grateful Castiel wasn't around as well. She didn't hate his company but he wasn't the most comfortable person to be around and some fresh air was welcomed. Her mother's death anniversary was closing in and with it, more violent nightmares followed. Dean went on a hunt with Sam and didn't hear from her for four days which was unusual. She didn't text, didn't call and when he came home he didn't find her in her room. Sure, he found a note she wrote about him, a note he kept in his mind but quickly put back where he found it. A note that would have made him smile if he wasn't so worried about her whereabouts. But she came home and she came to him. Those four days have been exhausted for her because of that upcoming anniversary and she was restless. Of course, he welcomed her into his arms and they did sleep together. Of course, he found that same good old routine again. All wasn't well but all was manageable. She kicked him out of bed a few times, woke up screaming but he was there for her. He comforted her back to sleep and she would wake up the next morning not remembering the events of the eve. Dean didn't remind her for both of their sakes. Seeing Oya this terrified wasn't something he fancied and he didn't want to embarrass her even more. No, being there was enough and the best he could do for her.

After so long, she received an alarming new from friends in New -Orleans. Information about her « brother » being seen in town along with a case with strong hints of involving vampires. She had asked all the hunters she met before she met the Winchester to keep an eye out for her brother so she could track him and kill him. All of them save from Dean and Sam knew in details what happened to her family. An Asanbosam, an African demon akin to a vampire but more powerful than them possessed her older brother who then killed their mother in front of Oya's eyes before it took off. Usually, it didn't cross continents and remained in Africa but Kalusha did go to America. She tracked him there, hence why she even was in America in the first place. He was unusual in his behavior but maybe it had to do with the species being extinct in the continent and the creature trying to survive. Oya felt guilty about his possession since it happened after she provoked her brother. To prove his worth he went alone and faced the demon who seduced him and possessed him. How could she not feel guilty? Their father died a year later due to cancer caused by his guilt and the grievance over the loss of his wife and son and she watched him die. It was already enough to drive one crazy. So that very morning, upset about the new and in dire need of relief, Oya had sex with Dean and in the heat of the moment, she offered they hunted together again. He accepted to and before she knew it, they were hitting the road.

Oya thought that maybe he would be busy solving the case and she would find out where Kalusha was so she could kill him or die to try. Yeah, that wasn't smart at all, but Oya was driven by guilt and she thought that the only way to pay for her mistakes and past sins would be to die while she tried to stop the demon. She wanted to enjoy what she conceived as her last trip with Dean but barely could hold herself together. Unable to keep a poker face in front of a loved one, she betrayed her real intention during dinner. He noticed her erratic behavior, her anxiety building up and when it finally exploded, she told him everything she knew and everything she wanted to do. It was the very first time that Dean ever saw Oya panic the way she did and the first time she felt so vulnerable in front of someone -save for Castiel since he already saw her breakdown- and she wasn't at ease at all. But he stayed. He remained there. He even told her that he refused to let her go and play cowboy with a monster this strong. She realized that he didn't actually want her to die, let alone be on her own and facing the demon. It confused her but she appreciated his attention. He was upset she didn't tell him before but even more than she wanted to go alone and die without him having a clue. To hear him, of all people, tell her that he had her back as well as Castiel and Sam echoed within her heart and mind. He included his whole family and threw her in the mix. Did he... did he care about her that much?

She didn't have time to think about it too much. About what she told him and revealed to him, about how it made her feel, about her fears. She conceded to open-up about her guilt and maybe think about a future with the brothers rather than on her own or dead. It was a small victory for both Dean and Oya but it was there. Dying wasn't on the menu. At least not stupid sacrifice or giving up on life. He laid out a plan to find out if they had to deal with classic vampires of the Asanbosam and she decided to follow it. First stop, the morgue. It didn't go well because Oya lost her control. Seeing the body of the Hamptons, mother, and son, Tyler, did a number on the young woman because she could see how gruesome and ritualistic the young boy's murder had been. Typical move from Asanbosam saved from the heart that wasn't missing but pretty much kept in place. When asked about similar cases, Dr. Cutter informed them that there had been similar bodies found as far as two months ago with the heart and liver removed (just like during a ritual performed by an Asanbosam) but the newest victims weren't. It didn't tick off Oya's ear at first but if rituals were completed two months ago, that meant there were fresh Asanbosams in town. Fresh meant weaker than an older version but fresh also meant a little more powerful than casual vampires. She discovered two bodies with completed ritual scarifications and missing organs. What of the rest? The non-complete bodies? They could be copycat or maybe humans aspiring to become Asanbosams themselves. It would make better sense. The ritual wasn't complete and vampires wouldn't keep trying to complete a ritual they knew wouldn't work on them. Humans would. Not everyone could survive the ritual, therefore, they died before they could rip off the hearts and consume them.

Dean split up with her earlier because he was looking for a clue about the area where the killings took place but she had to warn him about the two fresh Asanbosams most likely to be in town. She still was under pressure because she didn't hear from her friends and was waiting for their e-mails but minutes after she sent a text to one of them, she heard some noise on the front door and discovered a picture of her brother with a note written behind « Missed me ? ». she went to grab the blessed stake and went outside of the motel room to check but didn't find anything or any presence there. Pacing around, she texted Dean with a simple « Come home soon. » and sat on the bed with a blank stare on her face. Dean got another message but from the Coroner stating that two fresh bodies just dropped but he would examine them tomorrow and invited Agent Coulson and Zeppelin to come to the morgue the morning after. It was a nightmare for Oya who didn't know how to handle the situation. Her guts were churned and painful and she simply wrapped her arms around her legs and leaned her forehead against her knees and waited for Dean to come home.

Dean came back and she informed him about the events of the night, which prompted the older brother to take her out of the motel since they were vulnerable. He took her to Benny's old inhabited house and they spent the night together, brainstorming about what they knew and preparing a plan for the day to come. It was simple. She was pretty sure the victims that were dropped at the morgue late that night were of her friends and they would have missing organs just like the two other victims. If the job was neat, it might possibly be her brother but if the job was choppy it would be the two fresh minions he acquired. Either way, Oya was ready to kill all three of them and willing to do it on her own but this time Dean caught her behavior changes and new she was up to something, so they argued. He wouldn't let herself get killed because she didn't think her plan through. He wouldn't let her get killed because she felt guilty and certainly just wouldn't let her get killed. So they argued about the best way to proceed and she told him that they would have a clear shot at the Asanbosam once they know where the two victims were killed. She told him that he baited them now that he openly disclosed his location and she couldn't help but fight him. He might have been watching them since they arrived but he didn't know her relationship with Dean and therefore only expect her to run alone in the trap he set for her.

Dean helped her fall asleep and regained some strength so tomorrow they would be ready for the upcoming fight. They both went to the coroner and he confirmed that the bodies were of her two hunter friends, which nearly brought Oya down to her knees as she had yet again lost people she cared about, but it also strengthened her resolve to end the Asanbosam and the trail of piled up bodies he left behind. The morgue was attacked by the two minions who injured dr Cutter -thus forcing him to witness some supernatural shit- but were defeated by Oya and Dean after inadvertently disclosing the location of their « king ». While Dean was trying to calm the coroner and explain to him what he and Oya's business was about, she escaped in order to fight the Asanbosam on her own, convinced that it was the right thing to do. Dean noticed and called her to try to make her change her mind but she refused to comply and drove straight towards the manor the creature chose to live at. Dean quickly chased after her, cursing her and wishing he arrived in time to prevent her from doing something stupid.

As she arrived, however, the creature started to taunt her, still hidden in the dark for it wasn't night time just yet. The creature started to taunt her, hidden in the shadows. Oya went to the kitchen in order to get herself a large knife and then went to the living room in order to stop the Asanbosam. It attacked her and started to rough her up when Dean arrived. He quickly left the car and decided to carefully approach the house. Inside the house Oya was trying her best to defend herself but the creature's words were still echoing through her head. it wasn't wrong, she did come to die and was prepared to do so after she put the creature down, but it was proven more difficult than she expected. It cut her deep, deep enough to leave a scar in the future and right before it could kill her, Dean intervened. together, they had a chance to distract the creature enough for Oya to stab it with the blessed stake and Dean to behead it.

That was done. It was over. Her brother was avenged, her family could rest in peace and she could die now could she? But she couldn't. Oya realized that she was alive and she would have to deal with the pain of being alive now. Dean helped stitch her up -that hurt like a motherfucker- and put her back into his car, all the while arguing with her about how stupid that was for Oya to leave and try to die. How dared she wants to take her own life? how could she do that to him? why was she doing it? Dean couldn't understand and he called her out of her bullshit despite her having a very thick head. It went through, however, fortunately for them. She gave him instructions on how to dispose of her brother's body. she didn't have the strength to do it herself so Dean did.

After he put her to bed at Benny's house, he went back, buried the brother along with a picture of Oya and him, came back to the morgue to help a shocked dr Cutter and cremated the bodies of her hunter friends. He took their belongings with him to give to Oya and both of them hit the road back to the bunker.

Oya knew that it only was the beginning. She didn't quite know what to do now and decided to focus on healing first. Grieving might come later.

(THE END)
