Headcanon Family: 

Sara grew up in a very abusive house. Her parents quickly saw her as something to exploit. Her mother was a gambling addict and her father was craving fame. Her mother stole compound V from Vaught (her employer) and gave it to her daughter. Sara survived after excruciating pain and developed telekinesis as a result. She was emotionally abused by her parents and subjected to intense training while she was still a little girl. Her mother never displayed affection towards her as soon as her gambling addiction took over.  Her father seemed to be the kindest one, but he was setting up huge expectations on his daughter, to the point that Sara was set up to fail because she never succeeded in pleasing her father. So she grew up thinking she was a disappointment to both of her parents. 

Around the time she started to show her powers, her extended family refused to visit. They believed that superpowered humans were actually satan spawns and they rejected Sara when she manifested her powers. It took her family's murder for Sara to realize that her extended family actively rejected her because she had powers, calling her a demon child. It fueled Sara's anger and disgust toward her family. Her childhood encourages Sara to behave differently when it comes to children. She always manages to treat them with calm, warmth, and kindness. She empathizes with them, especially the children who had been abused by her family and she will always protect them from harm. Sara's only brave moments would come when a child is in danger. -Don't try to hurt Ryan in front of her or any other child for that matter- She dreams of having a family of her own someday and would ensure that her child, should she have one, would be dotted on like no other one. Dotty, for now, could be seen as a mother figure for the young woman, despite them having mostly a manager/ client, type of relationship too.
