A vintage touch: Her beloved

A vintage touch: Her beloved

// Because I love them. and I wrote this with this song:

Mary couldn't pinpoint the moment she fell in love with Tommy. How could she exactly know when her feelings became romantic for the man? She did remember though, that her heart started to pound hard against her ribcage when he was taking care of his horse. Suddenly, this man who had shown a very rough edge became soft, calm, and collected near the animal. She was moved by his tenderness towards the horse and the genuine affection he showed the animal.  Mary couldn't pinpoint the moment she fell in love with Tommy, but she knew that she was swayed by the way he loved his family. He seemed rough, for the untrained eye (and he was, to some extent), but all he did, he did for them. He was obsessed with the idea of caring for his loved ones, making sure they weren't in need of anything, and making sure the family was thriving. He was in such need of control that he always made sure to know what was going on, even if they didn't tell him directly themselves. He lost so many people in his life that she understood his desire to know and to be able to protect or save them. He behaved the same with her. He protected Mary, saved her even from harm, and made sure that she had anything she needed. Tommy had a big heart. Tommy had a loving heart for the one who could see past his schemes and brutality.

Mary didn't want to know how she fell in love with the man. She didn't need to know because it didn't matter. The truth was, her heart belonged to Tommy. Everyone knew it before she acknowledged it. Everyone joked about it and teased the two of them long before they were ready to talk about it -they still had not spoken about those feelings-. She knew that he wasn't ready to commit. He still had not recovered from the loss of his first wife and definitely didn't want to lose another lover. Mary was that person. She was the one who snuggled into his heart and mind in ways he had not anticipated. She was the one he wanted to return to, the one he wanted to cherish, the one he wanted to spoil. She was the one he wanted to protect because she put his heart at ease. Because she was the Sun. Because she was the Sun he was drawn towards. She made sure he was alright, not just physically but also mentally. She made sure he kept a connection to his son, so he could build a relationship with him and become the father he never had. Mary was good. She was so good to him, too good to him, and that had kept him from trying to pursue a relationship with her. Things were better the way they were..... Mary... Mary wasn't sure either. She didn't want to be seen as someone to replace Grace, as a way for him to cope with his loss and raise his son. She wasn't Grace. She would never be.

Fear kept them from confessing their feelings to one another. Fear kept them from embracing each other. Yet, yet, on this soft day of Fall, all Mary could do was watch her man pet his horse and talk sweetly to it. All she saw was Tommy as he was when his mind was quiet, and when the need for violence, power, and blood had not overwhelmed him. All she saw was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, her beloved. oh... How her tongue had slipped and nearly led to her confession. She longed for the possibility to say it, to claim her love for him. She longed for the sweet relief her heart desired but all those thoughts were pushed back at the back of her mind because all that mattered was that Tommy was in a good mood and she wanted to keep him in such a mood. Her hand gently moved and she let it pet the horse too. It was a good day, it was the best day. How she loved him.
