PRIDE AND ELPIS: About Elpis

About Elpis A little insight of her personality. She's one complex little cookie but after a while, she's finally talking to me! I'm thrilled about her upcoming release even though she still has to wait a little bit. I want Asma a proper send off just as she is going to have soon. Lovely idea I have to thank my dear Lou for. <3

Elpis has always been known for being the goddess of Hope and Light. She was the latest born of the primeval gods. The youngest of them all. Of course, she was known to be naive and kind and pure. That was the legend around her and in truth, she was all of these things. She walked the Earth amazed by mankind and its creations. She walked the Earth experiencing their emotions. She was empathetic to them and she cared for them as little brothers. After all, Gaea was the All-mother, therefore, humans were Elpis brothers and she had to take care of them. Something within her compelled the goddess to do so and she did. She took care of them and grew fond of these short intense lives. She grew fond of the ability of humans to go beyond their condition and live their lives to the fullest. Her heart is filled with love and that love, she gave to Pride. Completely dedicated herself to their relationship, his and her dreams.

Elpis cared. She was compassionate and understanding, qualities that still define her today. She was protective of humans but also of her siblings. Always one to listen to their issues, always one to comfort them, she never asked anything in return. She had a heart of gold. She gave and gave until there was nothing left to give. She was obedient, inexperienced and gullible at least at the beginning. Because things rapidly changed when she met Pride, the Sin of all Sins. The future king of the Underworld and her heart, her worthy suitor. To say he corrupted her was a semi-lie. He didn't per say change her heart. He revealed to her what has already been inside. Elpis matured rapidly by his sides. Maybe it was curiosity that led him to see what could become of this new goddess or maybe he had spotted something inside of her that was waiting in the dark. For he certainly did discover something.

Indeed he did!

Elpis is kind. It's her essence. She is good, although one could argue that good is fairly neutral in this world. She is filled with love She is a protector of life and light. She cannot accept that darkness destroys Earth. -she could care less about other pantheons or other sins- and would be compelled to fight it in order to protect mankind. Her aura gives hope into whoever she approaches. It is capable of performing miracles such as having a soldier stand up once again despite their injuries or the clear knowledge they would lose the war.

It could eventually help a sick person fights back its disease and recover. It is a very powerful and non-discriminative feeling. She gave hope to murderers and sick children alike. It's a positive feeling, however. She worked often on battlefields with different gods of wars, inducing hope in the hearts of the fighters. Her light could harm a creature of the dark, especially when she's fully embracing her rôle as the goddess of Light and Hope. Her touch can burn a creature of darkness. She is filled with love, despite the years spent trapped and is dedicated to the preserving mankind now that she is alone.

She used to be very submissive prior to her meeting with Pride but since then, had radically changed to the point of refusing to be seen as less than an equal. While many believe she's innocent and STILL submissive and gullible, they are there for a surprise. Indeed, Elpis isn't submissive, she is Pride's queen and nothing else because she believes that it is her place to rule by his sides. To be the Yin to his Yang. It still comes from the fact that she is STILL in love with him despite everything and really wants to be by his sides and help him achieve his goal. Of course, her agenda is still to preserve Earth and humans but she won't step in his way as long as he doesn't try to destroy Earth. Although she's extremely powerful, Pride's darkness is beyond her light, therefore, she cannot defeat him without a perfect plan beforehand. It's a good thing she doesn't want to. Elpis is loyal to a T and her loyalty for Pride, alongside with the powerful love she felt (and still does feel) for him were the very reasons she was punished by Isthar.

She revealed herself to have a darker side, which prior her curse, manifested when the Sumerian Pantheon disrespected the All-Father and bragged about being able to destroy the Primeval gods' pantheon. An upset was an understatement of how she felt on that day. It wasn't just about mocking the pantheon and trashing the All-Father. It was about threatening her siblings and those she loved. It was about being a threat to herself. She unleashed her fury on them, effectively killing the whole pantheon and causing the end of the Sumerian civilization due to the great despair they felt in trying time and the disappearance of their faith in the old Sumerian gods. There was born the goddess of Despair. Nobody talked about it and pretended it never happened, save for Ayasha who knew that if Elpis came to understand and consciously use that power, she would become the most powerful goddess of her pantheon, save for Gaea and the All-father. So they ignore the event altogether and manipulated Elpis into forgetting about it altogether.

That darker side was awakened the day Ishtar stabbed Elpis and cursed her into a never ending cycle of reincarnation. Her anger, anguish, and despair at the idea that nobody would ever remember her save for those traitors haunted the goddess who had millennia to understand how that darker side works. It manifests when she's angry -not slightly upset like she would usually be- really angry. Angry to the point she could not calm down. Her anger is cold, calculated. She speaks slowly and there is no warmth from her. There is no sweetness to her, there is nothing but cold white anger and a desire to kill greater than anyone saw before.

She is extremely possessive, territorial and vindictive if you have wronged her (and that requires a big offense here). She would end you. That side of her is sadistic, venomous and relishes in torture and violence but ONLY when she wants to avenge herself or PROTECT someone she cares about. Otherwise, there is no reason for her to feel that way at all. Besides, it has a FLAW, If she were to feel compassion or love or even hope again, she wouldn't be able to maintain her anger, she could easily lose this destructive power and return to her old self.
