The end of 2024
The end of 2024
How to define 2024?
As usual, the wonderful art (and tradition) by the wonderful artist Lelia Alvarez. I fell in love with her art in 2011 and as soon as she started this tradition, I just embraced it all together :D With this, of course, I always attached a little reflection on the year that passed and wishes for the year to come.
I will start by wishing you the best holiday season to all of you. I know that the year has been extremely intense and heartbreaking for some of you, quite fulfilling for others, and quite exciting as well. I can only hope that 2025 will sort things out in a positive way. I can only hope that you will keep on exploring and experimenting. I can only hope that you will keep on taking care of yourselves, your needs, your dreams, and your desires, and for those who couldn't rest this year, I can wish you all the rest possible. I know it's a bit cheesy, but I really want you to have a better 2025 and be much happier. Yes, the wishes are the same as last year, but they resonated with me this year and I hope they still resonate with you as well.
Since 2021 things have been really hectic on my side. I told you about my dad's cancer and near-deaths from late 2021 to his somehow stability and ongoing battle with the disease up to this year. He's back to who he used to be and through hard work and dedication, he is far more autonomous and doesn't require as much care as before. I lost a friend to cancer that same year and it had sincerely been difficult for me to cope with that loss, especially when there are things I know she would have loved and I can't tell her about it anymore, but I'm getting there. My twin, in late 2022, was diagnosed with cancer as well and I honestly thought my life was ending right then and there. I had to pull myself together and I am grateful for the help I got from family and friends to hold onto Hope and communicate it to my twin. I admire her so much, she fought teeth and nails and today, she's officially in recovery. we can only hope that after the mandatory couple of years of observation, all her results would show negative and she would officially be declared cured of that disease. But boy, these last couple of years were sincerely rough on us all, but they pulled through and they fought hard and I am grateful for yet another Christmas I can celebrate with my twin because she is half of me. I don't know how to do life without her. I dreaded losing her because then, what would I do? Needless to say, anxiety and depression were at an all-time high but my therapist truly was god-sent and my support system was awesome. I owe them my life.
The year had not just been challenging but also very positive come to think of it! Besides the health progress of my dad and twin, I became an aunt and I fell in love with that tiny human my little sister brought on Earth. I count my blessings because I was able to have a very intense and positive year at a very personal level. I am so deeply in love with my partner. He is so awesome, my best friend, a darling, a funny guy who always makes me laugh and makes me feel safe when we're together. We are doing that adult life well and soon enough, I'll be able to openly be excited about a little project of ours :D I'm so happy about my book because now it's being reviewed and proof-read :D I was able to strengthen my friendships and end those that were toxic to me. I am still baffled at one friendship that ended recently, but I am glad it happened at the end of the year so I can start 2025 on a fresh start! Thank you darlings. Thank you so much for everything. I felt privileged to share my friends' important moments and to be a friend to them to my best abilities. I was able to meet new people, broaden my circle of friends, to grow more comfortable in my skin. I still continue my therapy, still, take care of my mental health, and still fuel my creativity.
yes, I know, it's the same wish for myself as the previous years but why break what works?
It's been a really good year and I really loved it. I can only wish that the year to come, would top it off or be even better.
I really hope that you will have a wonderful end of the year and that 2025 will treat you better.

The end of 2022
How to define 2022?
As usual, the wonderful art (and tradition) by the wonderful artist Lelia. I fell in love with her art in 2011 and as soon as she started this tradition, I just embraced it all together :D With this, of course, I always attached a little reflection on the year that passed and wishes for the year to come.
Complex. Intense. Fulfilling...
I will start by wishing you the best holiday season to all of you. I know that the year has been quite intense for some of you, quite fulfilling for others, and quite exciting as well. I can only hope that 2023 would sort things out in a positive way. I can only hope that you will keep on exploring and experimenting. I can only hope that you will keep on taking care of yourselves, your needs, your dreams, and your desires and for those who couldn't rest this year, I can wish you all the rest possible. I know it's a bit cheesy, but I really want you to have a better 2023, far better than 2022, and be much happier.
Man, I thought 2021 would be the end of it, but then my dad was diagnosed with a serious illness that nearly took his life. Some friends still got that short end of the stick. Despite my good intentions, the holiday season at the end of 2021 was a nightmare because I thought I would lose my dad. I had to make some sacrifices I won't discuss here but, things looked bleak on my end. I am still hurting from the death of my friend Colleen and that only stressed me about losing my loved ones. 2022 was tough, honestly, I spent the whole year terrified and exhausted. Being the caretaker of my dad, while also ensuring that my sisters didn't burn out had been extremely challenging. To make matters even worse, not only were we forced to move out of the house we rented (the owner wanted to sell it), but my twin sister got recently diagnosed with another serious illness that left me terrified of losing her too. So of course, the end of that year is spent packing, supervising visits to our house, and caring for my twin while she's still working. it's rough, but we take it one day after the other. And I can only hope that the worst of it is behind us.
The year had not just been challenging. I count my blessings because I was able to have a very intense and positive year at a very personal level. My partner and I keep on strengthening our bond. I'm happy with him. I really am. I finished my first draft. Proofread it and will be ready to correct, translate and professionally edit the book come next year. It's something I never thought could happen. I have been working on the book for so long now and had to build everything from scratch, I had doubts, hesitated, hated myself and cried and screamed, and tried to delete everything but in the end, I made it happen. I finished the first draft and I am motivated to keep on working on it and finally present to you a final product. This is extremely exciting and I feel grateful to have been able to get there. I count my blessings because I was able to travel more this year. I discovered Italy, the UK, and Greece, and returned to Belgium and some other places in France. I conquered my fear of planes, and I conquered my fear of the sea (and the cold sea at that) and that felt great. I swam at sea!!!
I count my blessings because this had also been a year that tested my friendship with people. It helped me go deeper with some of them and cut ties with some others that were not positive for me. Sometimes, no matter how much you love someone, if spending time with them or interacting with them in one way or another end up making you feel awful, then it's best to put an end to it. I feel better, definitely better because of this. I felt privileged to share my friends' important moments and to be a friend to them to my best abilities. I was able to meet new people, broaden my cycle of friends, to grow more comfortable in my skin. I still continue my therapy, still, take care of my mental health and still fuel my creativity. It's been a really good year and I really loved it. I can only wish that the year to come, would top it off or be even better.
I really hope that you will have a wonderful end of the year and that 2023 would treat you better.

What of 2017
2017, what a year. It's very funny because each year I keep on saying that the next one would be better and it couldn't be worse than what I went through and the next year ends up surprising me. 2017 did surprise me. It was an actual rollercoaster of emotions. I remember how terrified of the beginning of the year I was. I watched with disgust how a man with no class, no compassion, no empathy for the other and ready to wreak havoc on the World was taking charge of one of the most (if not the most) powerful countries of the world. I was desperate and hopeless and mind you, the world as it is is pretty much depressing and stressful. You only have to look around you to see it. I felt nauseous for a good chunk of the year, up until I fulfilled a dream of mine in May. I went to Canada! Who would have thought? the opportunity presented itself and I took it! I seized it in my hands and didn't let go.
I don't trust easily, I don't trust my own damn self, most of the time. I don't think people would be interested in me for real and even less that they would do the work to get to me. I also believe that love, if it's there and real, is not enough actually. Just like in any relationships, you have to work hard to make it work. you have to be there, and endure the bad moments, relish in the beautiful moments and keep a clear head. You have to be honest (to yourself and to others), you have to communicate. I'm working on my communication skills. I'd rather be blunt when it comes to how I feel and yeah... I felt it, the tingle in the heart and the "why not?" in my head. I saw it, the desire and affection someone could have for me and it does scare me but it also makes me feel so good. WELP! that was one hell of the year right? it's probably never going to become something and I might just experience it again, elsewhere for all I know. but that very moment I realized my heart wasn't dry was a moment I'll never forget and cherish for a very long time.
That was so hard. I already had issues, you know, but with this... I didn't want to fight anymore, I felt overwhelmed you know? But bless my friends. You, people who are close to me or not that close to me. Your kindness really helped. I can't thank enough those who spent hours helping me, giving me support, giving me love, checking on me and those who took me out, those who wrote down beautiful messages... All of you. Thank you. I found that strength to keep going, to get better, to still go to my PT sessions, take advantage of the psychological help I got throughout recovery.. for everyone who makes it possible for me to get better. I can't say thank you enough....it's really hard but you help make things better. I'm grateful for that.
I have hopes for 2018. I really hope that things would be better. not just for me but for my loved ones, for you, for our friends, for our acquaintances and everyone else. I really hope this new year would bring more good news. I don't bury 2017 nor do I cast a stone on it. It was a challenging year. It was a year of growth, of pain, of solitude, of love, of luck, of projects... It was one hell of a year; I would not forget this year. nor can I forget 2016 but this one... I had so many good things happening and I want to remember these good things.
So,
Farewell 2017. I would not go as far as saying that you were my year, but you certainly showed facets of my personality I never knew I had. You showed /me/ love. You showered with it and for this I am grateful. you were the year anything was possible and anything truly was. I saw miracles happen, I saw extraordinary things happen and catastrophes
