She would not hide her tears from Jake because she doesn't want to hide anything from him. She would first not admit she's sad, but would quickly want to be comforted by him.

secret they won't talk about: Lux doesn't want Jake to know that she's both being coveted (for her title, her name, her lineage) and treated with disdain and contempt by the high nobility. She doesn't want him to see her in such vulnerability when she's treated like a god among humans. Obviously, Jake would witness it first hand.
