- 5 founding fathers (called Founding vampires): En-Sabah Adora, François Roustain, Akhona Ngawa, Fenghua Li, and Stepjan Stejic.
- All 5 vampires gathered together and created a small council of Elders.
- The council decided to expand, and each founding member sired children, enough to create 5 families: The Adora, the Roustain, the Ngawa, the Li, and the Stejic.
- The families were considered equal, but the truth was, the Adora were the most powerful, feared, and revered throughout time. En-Sabah Adora was the first vampire to ever walk the Earth and therefore the most powerful of all. Usually, he was the last one to give his opinion, and his decision was final and the one followed by the rest of the family. After his death, the Adora family retained this level of reverence and power.
- After millennia of ruling, the founding vampires all died under various circumstances, but it had been such a long time ago that it's difficult to confirm they are all effectively dead.
- Mausoleums were built in their honor, but we do not know what's truly inside, as it's forbidden to destroy the tombs and try to collect the ashes or any remains still existing.
- The deaths that can be easily proven because they died in public eyes were those of Ngawa, Li, and Stejic. All three died by exposure to the sun. Ngawa freely walked in after suffering the loss of her firstborn child (which happened to also be her biological child). The loss was too great for her mind to endure, and she committed suicide. Stejic lost his mind -under suspicious circumstances- and nearly threatened to destroy his own family. He was declared unfit to rule anymore and was put in isolation -locked in an empty tower with a rooftop window that could only open through a complex system. He chose to open the window and let the sun burn him to a crisp after so long spent isolated from the rest of his community. The last one, Li, was actually murdered. She became so hell-bent on going to war against the other families that, for their own sake, her own family turned on her. They trapped her and publicly executed her through a clever system of windows.
- The deaths that can't be easily proven because no one saw them were the last two: Roustain and Adora. It was said that Adora buried himself at the bottom of the ocean after he ran a wooden stake through his heart. Only his firstborn witnessed the death and was the one who buried him at the bottom of the ocean, but no one else saw proof that he was dead. Rumours said that he knew he was going mad and was dissatisfied with his condition as a vampire. To prevent a potential genocide of his species, he decided to kill himself.
- It was also said that Roustain actually demanded to be decapitated and torn apart by his firstborns. Each parts of his body were buried in different places in the world, but his head is the only "relic" they expose at his mausoleum. Rumours had it that Roustain was the closest friend of Adora, and upon seeing him go mad due to vampirism, he opted to die in a bid to protect the species.
- The only remains that are exposed are of Li, Ngawa, and Stejic. There are urns with their ashes in their mausoleums.
- There is a skull, said to be of Roustain, in his dedicated Mausoleum. Lux is the only one who suspects that it's not his real skull but someone else's.
- There is nothing in Adora's Mausoleum, and Lux suspects that he isn't dead either.
- The truth: Roustain isn't dead. He just hasn't made an official comeback yet.
- He hated Adora. He wanted to be the most powerful of the species, the one others would look up to. The ones they would fear and they would revere. He hated the power Adora had and the respect across the Vampire society and among their peers. He poisoned Adora and had to flee the council and the vampire society altogether with his firstborns.
- François Roustain knew that the poison would take a lot of time to kill Adora, so he bided his time and fell into a deep slumber. He instructed his firstborns to tell a fake story about his demise so he would come out as pious, victorious, and generous. By the time he poisoned Adora, the vampire society was developed enough for the Roustain family to remain despite their leader being dead.
- They also survived for so long because Adora didn't tell the truth. Instead, he decided to take his death in stride and prepare his offspring and the vampire society for a new age without the founding vampire. The truth about his death was disguised, and the legend of the benevolent Founding Father was born out of a desire to light the path of his species and to have them focus on protecting each other, even if that meant they would die in the process.
So what we know so far is that:
- The Five Founding Vampires are officially dead. 4 effectively are: Li, Ngawa, Adora, Stejic. 1 is actually still alive: Roustain.
- Frederic isn't aware of the existence of François Roustain. He is obsessed with becoming an Adora and accessing their wealth, their fame, and their status through a marriage to Lux, as well as their power.
- Frederic has her followed because he is intrigued by her desire to dig into the vampire mythos and legends.
- Lux is the only blood descendant of Adora. Hence, her immense power and her full transformation physique. She doesn't know it. Aurelius doesn't either.
- François wants to eradicate the Adora family and become the only ruler of the Vampire society. He would stop at nothing, including starting a war where only the fittest would survive.
