Since the betrayal and the siege she had to endure, the princess was determined to become even better at fighting with swords. She demanded to be trained by the swordmaster of the Red Keep to maintain her sharp reflexes. She needed to be ready in case something similar was to happen to her and she decided to take advantage of the fact she was thought to be dead to actually strengthen up. Jaime encouraged her to resume training, thinking that it was a good idea and would prove useful as time went by. He couldn't train her completely as he wished to do, but he could always help her correct her stance, and teach her fighting strategies (especially spatial awareness and the use of her surroundings during a fight).
Being unable to actually teach her how to fight had been a point of tension between the knight and the princess because he was painfully aware of his disability. He couldn't wield his sword like he used to and it pained him to have to rely on someone else to do it. Bäahal understood and she tried to comfort her betrothed the best way she knew of. She had always known a maimed Jaime and even then, when they first met, she thought he was a hardened warrior. Missing a hand, being half-blind, or even old were never disqualifying, but he would rather have her be trained by someone else than not trained at all. So here she was, standing tall before her swordmaster, determined to become better and stronger so she could protect those who would need it the most. She was already thinking about what was coming next. Lady Kyra would need some help with the noble houses. If she wanted to help her friend, she had to be better. She would be better.
