The princess sat on a bench; the warm wind of spring blew onto her face.
She was tapping her fingers against her lap and was aimlessly staring before
her. It couldn’t keep going, she couldn’t stay walking on eggs. How long would
she be able to handle this situation? How long before other things became priorities,
and her plight was forgotten? It wasn’t a simple decision she was asking her
sister to make, and although Tyrion was trying to cheer her up and tell her
that her sister was coming to terms with the situation, she knew it wasn’t
going to end soon. Too much was at stake here, too much anger, too much hatred,
too much to lose here. She was starting to consider that maybe she would have
to accept that a blessing would never be given. The world was hostile to people
like her and even more to people like Jaime. Why would they give Jaime a chance
at being happy when his decisions and the decisions of his family deprived
loved ones to have that chance? Way too many people suffered from Jaime’s hand
or his family and very few people would eventually consider forgiving him.
Daenerys couldn’t risk losing the support of her people by allowing this
romance to exist.
Bäahal was willing to take anything, even perhaps, being forbidden to
eventually show her affection in public. It was going to be a private relationship.
Something that only a few people could know about. Kyra, Tyrion, Jon and Dany could
be the only ones to ever know she tied her life to Jaime’s and Bäahal would
have been happy this way. She didn’t need the world to see she was happy; she
didn’t need to tell the world she was happy. She just wanted to be. But even
this option wasn’t fair. The first time she was in love with someone, the first
time she was happy with someone, she would have to suffer the dread of the
world? She would have to hide from the world? She would have to keep quiet all
her life? That was unfair…to watch her sister and Jon display their affection
in public, announcing their wedding to the nobles and dealing with consequences
together while she was left to rot on her own? But she swore allegiance to her sister,
and she would stick to her word and honour. After all, she had to pay a price
for being free and that price was to follow her sister wherever she went,
whatever she did. There was no hesitation in the princess heart, regardless of
how horrible that would be and how much she would be suffering from any
decision that would go against her relationship with Jaime, she still valued
her word and fealty to her queen. Dany had the rights to her life, whether she
liked it or not. Dany had the rights to her happiness.
The whole situation just made the princess cry, in silence, as usual. Her
mother taught her to endure terrible situations, and until the end fought to set
her free. Her devotion led to her death, but she was determined to save her
child and felt guilty she couldn’t save them when the slave-owners kidnapped
mother and daughter. She owed her
freedom to her mom. And she owed her freedom to Daenerys. Because she loved Jaime, she wanted him to survive
and she wanted to protect his family, so yes, if to do so she had to sacrifice
her happiness she would… but was it fair? Was it?
