Sara is terrified of her ex Brett. He was an abusive man who felt insecure about Sara's popularity. He wanted and needed to control every aspect of their relationship and he hated her freckles.
Brett isolated Sara and favored Unnamed Girl, to the point of never wanting to see Sara be herself when they were together. Brett gradually became physical with Sara. It started with a punch when she refused to cover her freckles and it gradually became harder.
He had this little game after a while, where he would just summon ice and get the place she was at, cold, so she could know he was around before he eventually showed up. Brett broke up with her but he still sees Sara as his property and he would not like to see that she found someone else.
