"Elijah wasn't wrong about everything. Yes, he was only concerned with his family's survival and that was something she understood. He wanted to protect those he loved the most. That was fair. however, he wasn't an insensitive asshole. He did give her good advice, centuries ago. She couldn't just spend eternity isolated from other living beings. She had to connect with nature, with the planet, with Life itself if she wanted to live instead of just existing. 

He probably said that to her because he noticed that the more good she was doing, the better she felt and the more powerful and confident she was. He probably wanted her to level up in power and master her untapped potential or... or... perhaps he cared enough for her mental state. Well, the last part was unlikely because he didn't care much about her feelings, and didn't even know she had a massive crush due to being lonely. yet, that wasn't bad advice. If anything, he was right.

She had to live. She had started to, first by bonding with the Hybrid and wanting to spend more time with Klaus and perhaps open up to more. She was eager to live and experience new things. She was eager to fully be herself. She was a kind and generous soul, but there was a dragon sleeping inside her and it was slowly awaking."
