The headmistress of the Grace Institute was training Mary to replace her when the time would be right. She managed to build a strong relationship with the young woman and sometimes she would ask her questions about her past.
Mary doesn't hide her tumultuous past. She never hid the abuse she received at the hands of the nuns who took care of orphans. She never hid the abuse she got from her first husband but she always put forward her desire to be better than those old hags.
The headmistress enjoys spending time with Mary. They eat together and manage the Institute. She grew fond of the young woman and rejected any disrespect Mary could suffer from potential donors or even children. Through her hard work, she eased Mary into her new position and helped a lot with her integration into the Institute and with donors.
